Over 100,000 Spouses Cheating On-line While Working From Home

A survey from UK-based extramarital dating site IllicitEncounters.com shows that growing numbers of work-at-home spouses are cheating online.

In an in-site study, the website found over 65% (370,000) of members access the affairs site during work hours, and 23% (131,000) admit to logging on while ‘working from home’. The statistics show a 10% increase on those who visited the site on company time; perhaps a symptom of the overwhelming number of British employees stuck in jobs they no longer enjoy, as a result of the recession.

The self-employed are the most well-represented professionals on the site, with 13% of members working for their own businesses. Site spokesperson Sara Hartley comments:

“Those working from home do not have to labour under the scrutinous eyes of their boss, and are therefore more able to visit saucier websites on company time. However, self-employed men and women are also psychologically endowed with traits that make the more likely to stray.”

“Those who can afford to be self-employed have to have had a great deal of success in their professional lives, and we know for a fact that people who succeed in business are more likely to cheat; they usually nurture perfectionism, which makes them more likely to be dissatisfied with their relationships, and are also risk-takers – a behaviour which can aid them to make bold financial decisions, and also one which draws them to the idea of an affair”.

IllicitEncounters.com has been running since 2003, and has just over 570,000 members.
